Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings has gained a lot of attention from Marvel fans and finally has been released in September 2021. It can be considered as a revolutionary movie from Marvel Studio as this is the first marvel hero movie that acted and led by asian actors such as Tony Leung. Its story and settings are originated from Chinese culture which is quite new to fellow audiences. For me, I would say this movie deserves its high number of views that has generated them for about $250 million over the world. This is the first movie that made me visited to cinema after being restricted at home for so long. I have watched this film twice because this story and the intrinsic values that creator seeded in the movie had resonated personally with my current stage of mind very well. I would say it is worth watching as it come up few profound realization that could eventually change the state of mind of audiences. After watching it twice, I have come up 3 wonderful messages which I want to share it with you.
1) Don't get bothered by your past to build your mental peace
After watching this, I realized that mental peace is important in shaping and leading ourselves to live a delightful and purposeful life. There are lots of person that well-equipped with skills but without mental peace has ended their lives with goods or fame they want to have but not the fulfilment they want to get.
Why?
This is because without mental peace, you will not find or foresee the truth and meaning in your life. The plots of this movie has implied me that the best way to achieve mental peace is to acknowledge your past.
You have to let go your self-imperfection and resentment towards someone.
In this movie, Tony Leung, the antagonist or also known as Mandarin in film is a person that seek for power. By conquering and dominating territories, he has firm conviction that brutal force could make him to where he wants to be in his life. At the time when he perceived himself as immortal and invincible, he then got to meet with his spouse who is Ying Li, a woman based in Talo village. This woman is the first ever person that could defeat him and able to grab the ten rings from him effortlessly.
It seems incredulous for her to defeat him but how could she do that?
The only factor is she got to achieve her mental peace and later has gifted her the power of sanity.
In the movie, Shang Chi, his son was fought against him but he always couldn't win his father at first. This is because he was raised by a father that carrying with resentment towards the murderer and ultimately avoid him to acknowledge his family background. This made him lost himself same as his father.
There is a quote said by Shang Chi's aunt that inspired me very well. She said " You are the one who carries the good value that your ancestor passed down to you." For Shang Chi, he is the son of his mom and dad who respectively represents destructive power and mental peace. He should acknowledge his past and family background to get the power for him to match with his father. Finally, he had defeated his father which has portrayed the blend of body skills and mental peace will get us the massive power to breakthrough the obstacles in our life.
2) Understand yourself to live up with your full potential
This realization really could resonate with my stage of mind now. I believe there are lots of individuals who struggling to actually know their identity in terms of their strengths and weaknesses. This is totally normal especially for teenagers as we are just at the starting line of approaching maturity. So, being not confident is completely normal for us.
I used to be a not confident person before but now I gradually understand that the only way to build your confident is to understand yourself.
There is a scene which Shang Chi and his aunt was practicing on the way to defeat his father. During the practice, Shang Chi was used his combat skills to spar with his aunt who used philosophical martial art. However, he was defeated by his aunt.
The main reason contributing to his aunt victory is because she knew herself very well and was able to synchronize herself with the rhythm of her martial art which specifically driven by Chi ( breathe).
She later asked a question to Shang Chi which answered the secret of why his mom could defeat his dad. " Shang Chi, your mom understand herself very much, do you?"
Same applies to our lives.
Having a great understanding on ourselves could build the way we see ourselves.
The more we understand ourselves, the more we validate ourselves.
and this is where our confidence lies.
3) Harmony in culture
Great to say that, the uniqueness of this movie is the incorporation of Chinese history and culture elements. As Shang Chi is a superhero that originated and created from Chinese culture, this has brought the Chinese culture to international stage. With the creation of this movie, it somehow has created a general understanding of Chinese culture among audiences. This movie mainly comprises of Asian martial art, building, legendary creatures and mythology.
During the time when I was in the theatre, I heard a lady from Malay race kept appreciating the cuteness of a Chinese creature called Morris. It is a legendary creature originated in Shan Hai Jing ( Chinese ancient mythology book) called Hun Dun. It is characterized by six legs, faceless and pair of wings. At the time when I heard her cheering and appreciation, I felt relief and proud of our culture which could bring joy and admiration to her who was a Malay also known as BUMIPUTERA.
Overall, this is a good movie that started or sparked the connection and understanding between ethnicities and nationalities.
I believe that by exposing the different cultures using artwork, it would lead the world to a peaceful and harmony climate.
The world now is full of understanding between communities instead of misunderstanding.
To sum up, Marvel Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a worth watching and meaningful movie that carries a lot of intrinsic values.
Honestly speaking, the biggest realization I got from this movie is to achieve mental piece in your life.
As the world now is competitive and dynamic, we should prioritize ourselves by first discovering strengths, weaknesses and passion.
Once we have a great understanding towards ourselves, we would know what our passion are, what significance we want to make in our life.
And I personally believe this is the key yet the secret to live a blissful and successful life.
It takes time to discover ourselves.
So there is no hasty and anxiety in deciding our pathway.
Remember, follow your heart, but not the trend.
Be honest to your inner voice.
Last word, I strongly recommend you to watch Shang Chi to see whether you have the same realization as me.
Enjoy ;) Thanks for support
